Never, never take on challenges you know you may not surmount because of lack of training, especially those involving physical exertion. That was sheerly plain stupid of you to do, but I am praying your hand will remain intact with no long term or permanent damage (your gaming might be affected otherwise). Go to the damn doctor right now and have it examined right away, you may have ruptured some blood vessels or nerves for all we know.

I'm happy to say I've never been involved in an accident of any serious kind. Perhaps the most serious was when I was playing Water Polo, I crashed my hand into the head of the person swimming in front of me, and suffered a minor fracture in my thumb, which I did not know of till a month later. I thought the pain was just reactionary.
![]() Apart from that. Nope. Once I got really close though. Cyclists in our area have this habbit of running really close red lights. I personally never did anything of the sort but there was this one time when I was in a hurry and was tempted to go. So I did. Cars on the other hand also were in an apparent hurry and had to come to a screeching halt inches before my bike! It was all good, though. I got a glare from the lady driving the car, I put on a sorry face and went my way. I never did anything of the sort again... |

Well, I have suffered of many accidents during my life.
Mostly because I have bad luck many times, and because I play soccer and floorball. Two years ago I was goalkeeper in a floorball match, and I turned while I was on my knees, I heard a loud crack from my knee, and it hurt a LOT. Well, my knee was damaged and it had to go through surgery, it healed in about three months. And then in last May, I was running to the defense area in a football match, I made a sideways move, and of course the same knee broke again. This time I had to wait untill 8th of December to get to my surgery, now I'm in the start of my physical training period. In 5 1/2 months I'll be able to play football etc. again. |

I was sparring with this fellow about 7 years ago - curiously he had the same name as yours truly and my name is not very common (truth be told he had one less syllable in the last name - but one syllable in a seven-syllabic phrase is not a big difference). He was a head taller than me, but about as strong. Like I said, I was sparring with him and I tried a flying mae geri - the kind of kick where you jump as if to kick with one foot and then kick with the other - and he swiped me in mid air. If I had been on the ground he would've punched my knee from the side, as it were he crossed my legs and twisted my whole person... I went flying backwards and fell, whole weight on my left wrist... and I didn't break anything. BUT! But I dislocated some of the bones in the palm of the hand. It hurt muchly, but the pain ceased once I beat the shit out of a wall-mounted punching bag with a particular sideways knuckle punch the name of which I have forgotten...
My left hand is about as useful as the other one nowadays with a few exceptions. Occasionally it hurts hellishly after too much typing. I really cannot lift a piano, or anything heavy without handles. I can bend it downwards only about 45% degrees from the axis of the arm (compared to the 90% of the other hand) and when I do a bone juts out from the profile (the Navicular, if I am not mistaken). ![]() |

(I never thought of Moos as the weight-lifting type. )
My brother once threw a stone at me, quite a large one. It hit my head. I nearly died of fright.

I fractured the bone in my little finger (the one on the right in the picture below - thanks Kingz! But how did you know that was a pic of MY hand?
). I was fighting with my brother (we were teenagers, so it was ok), went to punch him and the sod moved. There just had to be a wall behind him, didn't there. Funny thing was, a few months later in another fight (we didn't fight much after this one), he fractured the little finger in the other hand when he hit me in the ribs. The best thing was the Doc then taught him how to hold his fist next time so he doesn't do it again. ![]() Apart from that I came close to killing myself when I was 11 - after a science lesson at school (you know the ones with circuit boards and bulbs that light up?) I decided when I got home to try it - being the thick, ignorant, curious sort. So I got a floor tack (U-shaped metal) and went to a plug in the wall, pressed it in and with the bulb in my hand, switched on the plug. BANG!!! - thank God I didn't hold the bulb against it when I hit the switch. My Dad went absolutely barmy. I nearly died twice that day come to think of it. ![]() Now I don't touch electricity if I can help it. @Kode - how long did you play Water Polo for? Or do you still play? I used to play too but only for a couple of years. I loved it. Many people don't realize how violent a sport it is though, and how tiring (which is why I mostly played in goal)

I've been playing it for 3 years, but now that season is done and I'm graduating from high school next year, I likely won't play it anymore. ![]() I wasn't the goalie kind, since I have somewhat weak legs (they fail not to pack on meat, though), so I usually play driver or wing. It was fun ![]() |

I was passing a guy on a small bridge when we were having a big party. He claimed later that I apparantly "tickled" him by touching his shoulder to pass, so it warranted him to throw his elbow back, which ruptured my collar bone, and then "judo" toss me over his head, pulling the same arm of which he had "adjusted" my collar bone, sent crashing down on some stones and water, which gave me a concussion. The rest of my class mates chased the dude in the forest (we were in the archipelag, in the middle of nowhere) and then I had to endure a car ride with a mate who was worried that I'd puke over his plush interior, and afterwards asked me for money for petrol. All in all the night was kind of a let down.

The only accident I can remember right now is my one and only car accident, back in high school. Remember that I live in western Washington state in the US, where it always rains but hardly ever snows.
The day started like any other. We had a pitch-black morning that gradually segued into a casual, grey afternoon. A normal day. At least until it started to snow. When the bell rang for the end of the day, the seniors and juniors all bolted for their vehicles (in surburbia it seems like every high school kid and their brother has a car). My family had just retired its 1982 Rabbit for a used 1993 Nissan, which was the car that I had driven to school that day. Although I had been driving for two years, I had little to no snow experience. <begin accident story> Like I said, most of the school was bolting towards their cars. No one wanted to be stuck waiting for hours while 200 kids inched their driver's permits out of the parking lot. I got lucky and was out at the head of the pack. The snow wasn't that thick, but it had rained the day before (as usual). Unbeknownst to me, there was a tidy layer of ice under the freshly-fallen snow. So I'm following the row of slow drivers out of the parking lot, worshipping my driver's ed training, making sure to keep my distance, headcheck, and all that jazz. I was on a roll. Ha! No, seriously. I was actually on a roll! You see, it coincidentally happened to be my birthday that day, and I saw my name flash onto the school's readerboard sign. So I turned my head to enjoy the fact that my name was being flashed for .5 seconds for the world to see. Unfortunately, that .5 seconds proved a little too much for me and the 1993 Nissan. When I turned my head back, I was mortified to find that my brakes weren't working and that I was inching at about 2 MPH towards the car in front of me. The world seemed to slow down even further. I sat there helplessly as my car softly *thudded* into the Station Wagon in front of me. I could see a large figure at the wheel and a young middle-school student in the front seat. That's when the driver stepped out. She was large, short, and VERY angry looking. She stomped over to my car and slammed her arms down on my roof. In a thick eastern European accent (my guess is Romanian), she demanded that I roll down my window. Like a frightened squirrel, I quietly lowered it. That's when the screaming started. A torrent of words, switching from one language to the next as most convienant to insult my driving. And I just sat there, feeling horrible. I don't mean to generalize, but I am a tall, rather big guy, and I bet it was a pretty comical sight. The cars that were behind me who were now arcing around the scene of the crime gave me sympathetic looks as they now made sure to keep the driver in front of them in check. Back to the accident. I eventually tried to calm the woman down. I looked out my window and noticed that her car wasn't even damaged, but this was something she refused to accept. She wanted my insurance. Now. I opened my glove compartment and gave her the names and numbers she needed. Then, before I could ask her for hers in return, she threw the papers back in my face, got back into her car, and drove off. All in all, I was really shaken up, but I knew I had to get home. It was my birthday, after all. So I pull back onto the icy road, keeping massive distance from the cars in front of me. It occured to me then that the 1993 Nissan might be a little light. None of the other cars I was seeing were having any trouble. Then again, I lived in a neighborhood where the only cars people drive are Ford Explorers. Only 5 minutes after my little "bump" with the Romanian woman, I found myself heading up a small hill out of the school zone. I'd taken many cars up this hill, before. On icy roads, too. But never this Nissan. I made it up almost 90% of the hill before the car started refusing to go forward. Instead, it slowly lurched to the side, again at about 2 MPH. This time, however, I didn't want to get into another accident. I went with the turn and gradually slid down the hill until my tires actually had traction. Then I went to the town YMCA and called my parents. <accident story over> It was more of a "stupid snow day" story than an accident story, but oh well. I can still remember it to this day. Hey, for my first and only car accident, at least it wasn't a speeding ticket or a car crash. I'm happy with "car bump," myself. |

The worst accident I have been through is at school when we were about to dissect a pigs lung and heart. I have rather low blood pressure so I have easy to faint. And that is what I did. Unfortunately I was standing up and there just had to be an overhead projector next to me which I hit on the way to the ground (although I never noticed hitting the damned thing since I already was out cold). When I woke up I had rather some pains in the head but was otherwise unhurt thankfully.
