My understanding is that if you are sending something in for the perusal of a publisher you'd better make sure there are two spaces after each period. But then again, I just recently found out that babies don't come from cabbage leaves, so....?

You know, Americans take a lot of crap for being narrow-minded, but then as soon as someone says "period" every non-American in earshot is just like "BLEAHGAH! WAHT AN INFERIOR WORD I WONT STAND FOR IT BLEARARHGHGHGA!!1!!@!11one." You don't see Americans freaking out when they hear "full stop."
