Silent Hill movie location shots

Don't know who knows, but there's a feature film adaptation of Silent Hill in the works, and someone snapped some digital camera shots on the location they're using to film it....

There are other shots at the above link that are a bit more atmospheric, but that one said "silent hill fresh meats" on it

They've got the abandonned bleak thing going for sure. With a bit of fog...

There's a bit more hype about the film here. Don't know what anyone in particular thinks of aint it cool news, but I don't mind it, even though I know it's a highly suspect site.

I might as well add that like all game to film adaptations I am not expecting much, but it's cool to see photos of what could easily be a real life visit to Silent Hill (minus the creepy fog

I've played a lot of 2 but not all the way through (I joined in a bunch of Silent Hill sessions at a friends house, but don't own the game or a PS2 myself), and loved it. I would have to take the game in super small chunks though. The parts I saw were always at around 1 in the morning, and freaked me out.

Silent Hill might just turn out to be a good video game adaptation, who knows. I love Avary's work. For those of you who didn't know, Roger Avary is good mates with Quentin Tarantino. They worked at a video store together. He also co-wrote Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction.

Here's the synopsis:

Sharon disappears in Silent Hill, and Rose follows what she thinks is her daughter?s silhouette all over town. It?s soon clear the town is not like any place she?s ever been. It?s inhabited by a variety of creatures and a living darkness that descends and literally transforms everything it touches. The human inhabitants?the ones who are left?are trapped and fighting a losing battle against the Darkness.

Joined by a cop named Cybil, who has been sent to bring her and Sharon back, Rose searches for her little girl while learning the history of Silent Hill and that Sharon is just a pawn in a larger game.

To save her daughter, Sharon makes a deal with a demon in the form of a little girl.....

It sounds quite close to the plot of the original Silent Hill game. In the game the protagonist is a writer named Harry Mason whose daughter (6 years old, I believe) is Cheryl. They are driving late at night, and a motorcycle cop, Cybil Bennett, passes them by and they briefly exchange glances. But moments later Harry passes the crashed motorcycle on the side of the rode, and suddenly a mysterious young girl crosses the path of Harry's jeep and he swerves just in time to miss her but runs down a ravine and crashes, knocking him unconscious. When he awakens he finds himself on the outskirts of Silent Hill. Cheryl is missing.

But you really need to play it all the way through. The story, man!! The damn story! It puts so many adventure game stories to shame!

It's the only game-to-film "conversion" I'm actually looking forward to see. I'm a big SH fan but also because the Brotherhood Of The Wolf fella is really suited to this kind of film and it's also under the influence, amazingly, of one talented scriptwriter rather than a "team".

Should be good. Love the shots.

Cool location, Jake. Directors always love it when they can "have" an entire town as their set.

I wonder if Brantford, Canada knows what is about to happen to it? A production co. tricked out an entire town (St. Helens) near Portland as Halloween Town for a kid's movie, taking over the center of town for 2 months. The locals were so pissed they were gathering tar pitch, torches and pitchforks by the time the company pulled out. Would have made a nice ending shot though.

In the town in which I grew up (Petaluma, California) the downtown or parts of it often got taken over for filmmaking... Nothing spectacular while I was around though (things like "Flubber" and "Mumford" and "Inventing the Abbots" - all classics), and nobody got too pissed off. Of course, the downtown in Petlauma isn't all that practical anyway - it's about 75% antique shops. Oh well.

Same thing here in Chicago when it was trendy to film here. Sometimes streets would get re-routed for a whole day, but it was nothing. I remember when they filmed The Untouchables and I happened to be at Union Station downtown while they were prepping it for one sequence. Interesting.

Savannah, GA is like that too. They filmed "Forrest Gump", "The Gingerbread Man", "Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil", and a few others on location there while I was a resident.
(Trivia:
Traffic around Johnson Square in downtown Savannah was temporarily reversed to get the opening and bench shots in "Forrest Gump" so that the bus stop bench would be located on the park side of the street.
The Vietnam scenes in "Forrest Gump" were shot in Savannah's surrounding marshlands, and only a few potted banana plants and CGI mountains in the background were added to the shots.
The scene in "The Gingerbread Man" where the main female character discovers her car has been stolen WAS NOT shot on location...it was shot on a set on a soundstage. The tipoff? The ballast stones on the ground are not worn on the set, but in the real location hundreds of years of carriages and automobiles have made a definate track across the central stones.)

I don't like the story of the movie...it sounds a bit generic. But I have high hopes because Roger Avary and Christopher Gans are involved, and combined, I don't think they could screw this up.
