There's a really funny review of Eragon over at scifi.com...the reviewer really skewered it, even going as far as replacing all the character names with those of Star Wars characters. Haven't read the book, but the mix of "love it or hate it" reviews for the movie have got me curious now.

There is no "mix" really. I mean, yes there are differences of opinion, but one can't really claim Eragon is getting "mixed reviews". It is very near to being unanimously and universally panned. It's at 13% at Rotten Tomatoes. Out of the 38 reviews listed so far, 33 are negative.

Why? Why do they say it is bad? Those people obviously have the wrong outlook.

You need the outlook of a child. But the stomach of an adult.

Durza is one creepy shade. At one point he looks like he just ate...blood.

Christopher Paolini is quite young, and it is his his first book. But I wouldn't call him a child.

Finished Deadwood a few days ago and found out that the show was cancelled. Now this is ridiculous, Deadwood was pretty popular with the masses, why cancel?

I heard about those parallels. Here's an article that lists them. If they're really that obvious, it looks like the movie has tried to play them down.

And even as an Earth-bound-Star-Wars adventure, it was a fun movie.

Just got back from The Pursuit of Happyness, great movie. It's about a guy struggling to provide for his family, and failing miserably, and not giving up. Easily one of Will Smith's best performances, and quite emotional.
