Default The Critic

I think this may be the right forum to post, as the staff writers and some interested forum members would be interested.

Clement Greenburg (art critic), Dorothy Parker (literary critic and author), and
James Wagner Au (cultural and video game critic).

The Critic
Odyssey radio talk show

Quote:
Whether in music, books, or art [or computer games], we are inundated by the opinions of critics. The critic is always there to help us discern the good from the bad, but criticism takes many different forms, and who gets to be a critic has changed over time. What is the cultural role of the critic?

Guests:
Edward Rothstein — Critic-at-Large at the New York Times; author, Emblems of Mind: The Inner Life of Music and Mathematics
Morris Dickstein — Scholar of literature and film, City University of New York; author, Double Agent: The Critic and Society
Joan Rubin — Historian at the University of Rochester; author, The Making of Middlebrow Culture
No mention of computer games, but the ideological, intellectual, social, cultural, and commercial values discussed apply just as well to the game critic. Awesome discussion, dimensioned with a brief history of the critic and criticism and their various types: academic, public, social, highbrow, middlebrow, interpretive, etc.

*bump*

Surely someone here cares enough about what makes a good [game] critic enough to listen to this exciting, glamourous, and family friendly discussion?

Maybe it's something to do with the fact that Real Audio is the tool of the Devil...

I'm definitely going to listen to this.
I've been frequenting a lot of "game journalism" sites that are trying to make it more professional and respectable. I might also go to the game journalism meeting at GDC, which is being moderated by the guy who runs Buzzcut.com

Check this out: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...lternative.htm

With it you can play 'real' files without Realplayer! ...which I agree is a truly evil program.
