If I'm not mistaken, there hasn't been a game based on the Warhammer universe since Dark Omen, unless we count in that cancelled (?) MMOG; both Fire Warrior and Dawn of War were based on Warhammer 40000. The first Warhammer RTS, Shadow of the Horned Rat, is still my all-time favorite game and Dark Omen is not very far from that. In case you have no idea what I'm talking about, let's just say that the Myth and Total War series borrowed A LOT from those games.

Enter Warhammer: Mark of Chaos.

I'll be brave and comment.

1. Very medieval. I love reading medieval history and some of the battles fought. One that comes to mind in a historical novel I read was the Battle of Bosworth Field.

2. It's reminiscent of war when it was 'honest' for lack of a better word. No GPS, no night vision goggles, no radar and launching a rocket or bomb from 1,000's of miles in the sky. You had to look your opponent in the eye before you gutted him with your sword or took his head off.

3. It's the type of game I would probably fail spectacularly at especially given my lack of reflexes. But the screen shots are very cool looking.

4. I hope that cold shower did the trick. Don't look at the page too much otherwise you'll spend the next year wet, cold and frustrated.

EDIT: What army are you going to pick? Come on, spill it.....

EDIT2: To clarify point 2, I'm not trying to romanticize war. War was hell no matter what century or place it was fought. More modern wars have seemed sterile in comparison to wars fought even as recently (relatively speaking) as the civil war. I think if you left the war making up to the guys who actually fought the battles, war would be over as we know it but it's left up to the men who have never seen combat. There, it's clear as mud.

You know, when I first saw the title, my mind was thinking "isn't there already a few RTS for Warhammer?" Only after I read your post till I realise that you were right. There are a few RTS for Warhammer40K and none for Warhammer.

Not that I'm complaining. I still prefer Warhammer Fantasy RPG (pen and paper) to 40K or warhammer.

Warhammer 40K is just another system created by The Games Workshop. It's more of a sci-fi world than a fantasy world, and have a bigger fan-base than Warhammer. Think more people prefer hunky Space Marines, than skimpy ordinary humans isn't it?

Not necessarily, the previous games weren't as fast paced as your standard RTS. You don't take control of each separate unit, instead you control groups and formations of units. It allows for far greater tactical depth and doesn't require lightning-fast reflexes.

Of course, this game is being developed by a different company so who knows how it'll turn out. The interview does mention some micromanagement.

Well, I'll play with all of them, of course!
But I think I'll go with The Empire first, especially if they bring back Morgan Bernhard and his Grudgebringer mercenaries.
