You don't see Whoopi Goldberg giving commercials about skin care, or Patrick Stewart giving a Nike shoes commercial. That is how far from gaming Paris Hilton is. And how about this for the game cube?

I've seen Roy Scheider and Elton John in Orange commercials (SJH linked to them some time ago). The trend of making ads that bear no relation to the product in question is actually a pretty strong one. It's not much different than hiring seemingly unrelated celebrities (which can actually be a rather smart move when trying to attract new customers).

Also, you have NO idea how rampant American celebrity endorsements are in Japan. They make excellent money over there and we here in the States know next to nothing about it.

The best japanese Hollywood celebrity ads are definitely Sean Connery's whiskey ads, Harrison Ford's Kirun Lager Beer ads and of course Arnold Schwartzenegger's really, really weird ads.

I've saved all those ads to my harddrive, they are pure gold.
