This game looks awesome. I will need to quit my job soon to be able to play all this gaming goodness coming our way.

They announced a Heroes video game as well. I have never seen that show, but heard a lot of good stuff about it. Wonder how it will translate into video game form.

Video Game Matches to be Televised on CBS

Quote:
So viewers flicking channels looking for a ballgame or golf tournament may instead encounter a couple of young guys rocking out on plastic guitars, or some (literally) disembodied digital boxers throwing uppercuts, or a fanciful animated wizard casting a spell.
Quote:
But for gaming to make it as a major-network TV sport, the big hurdle will be translating a medium that is by its nature meant to be experienced firsthand into a compelling hands-off spectator experience. It is a task that in some ways is no less daunting than that of the early baseball television producers who eventually realized that a camera way out in center field would provide the best view of pitches.
Quote:
And so, along the bottom third of the screen, Mr. Gordon had added six fat red health meters, like digital fuel gauges, reflecting the fortunes of the game’s players. For anyone actually playing the game, the same information would be conveyed by just a few minuscule pixels tucked in a corner of the screen.

“We need to add the health bars so TV viewers can understand what’s happening,” Mr. Gordon said. “Otherwise, forget it.”

Other assists for those unfamiliar with gaming will include explanatory boxes on screen (“Iceblock: a spell that encases a player in ice, protecting him from enemy spells”), play-by-play announcers and hosts, like Greg Amsinger and Susie Castillo, better known, respectively, for college sports shows and MTV’s “Total Request Live.”

Don't know if they'll be able to pull off the multiple character thing in the Indy films though. Surely you'd pretty much be Indy throughout.

The great white hope of PC gaming Crysis might be coming to consoles after all as Crytek do a U-turn.

Irrational Games is no more.

Instead we get... 2K Boston and 2K Australia.

Is it just me, or is this bizarre timing? Unless they plan to rebrand the BioShock boxes so that they can try and build a reputation for the "new" studio...

Yeah. I haven't got a link to a report on it yet, but the press release is out.

2K's reputation hasn't been the best since the hot coffee incident. I guess they are trying to grow more positive awareness to their brand, by releasing a very positive game (Bioshock) under the 2K brand instead of Irrational Games.

In a week or so you'll all be talking about a game called Brutal Legend. Maybe.

Are you referring to this?

A rough translation from Toblix over at Idle Thumbs:

Quote:
Vivendi confirms that Psychonauts creator Tim Schafer will be showing a new project during the game convention Games Convention (sigh).
Brutal Legend is the name of the game guru Tim Schafer's latest game. It till be shown at Games Convention next week, and Gamer.no will be in Leipzig to cover the event.

According to distributer Vivendi you'll be playing a Rock'n Roll roadie played by actor Jack Black (known from King Kong and School of Rock). Black dies and goes to Hell, and quickly finds it's not that cool to be where the sun never shines (sigh).

The goal is to escape to Rock'n Roll heaven. In order to do this the main character has to solve various tasks and puzzles. It's also said that there will be elements of strategy in the game, for example when controlling several characters at once.

Furthermore, Heavy Metal is apparently a big thing in Brutal Legend. We don't have any more information, but we promis to keep a close eye when the game is presented at Games Convention next week.

Schafer has earlier contributed to (or co-created, whatever) games such as Full Throttle, Psychonauts, Grim Fandango and Day of the Tentacle.
Disclaimer: This seems more rumour than fact at the moment (at least to me).
