The only thing I remember about one of the older settlers games was that the little people were animated at a lower pixelation than the one at which they ran. The maps were also littered with pretty stuff, too damn florid for my taste.

Settlers 2 was wicked fun when played together, splitscreen with two mice (mouses?).

I'm a bit vexed by the screenshots. Where is all the cuteness gone? I already didn't really like Settlers 3 and up though, it became too graphic. But I didn't really play them well.

Another game series that's fallen through the realtime 3D trap. *Everything* doesn't need to be done in 3D just because of it.

Anyway. The original settlers is the most fun in the series, after that it has only gone downhill.
