Yeah, the N-Gage is a big retarded load of crap. It really bothers me that GameSpot set up a whole N-Gage section, as if that big retarded load of crap has the same legitimacy as the PC or PS2 or something. I'm avidly awaiting its demise.

I take some solace in the fact that N-Gage users will look utterly ridiculous using the thing. To use it as a phone, you have to hold the thin side (what one might call the "spine") up to your face, so the whole bloody device sticks out perpendicular. Absurd! Then to change gaming cartridges, you have to remove the battery cover, take out the battery, replace the cartridge, and then replace the battery and cover! Even more absurd!!

The N-Gage is like, if you crapped your pants, and it ran down one of the legs of the pants on the inside... the N-Gage is that pant leg. Well, it's that pant leg with a poorly done Tomb Raider port.

This is also why I am sometimes skeptical of Gamespot's reviews and opinions. If they're paid to review a game or if they're offered a free copy of the game or some other gift, will they be more linient towards a game when it's time for a verdict? I wonder.

GameSpot is a sad joke - all the sadder due to the lack of a punchline. I agreed with them once, when they named Grim Fandango their Game of the Year - and that was that. I haven't visited it since I installed Kaaza Lite, and before I did it only sporadically. Most gaming magazines are jokes nowadays. I tend to like Eurogamer - though they too have their moments (the discussion of some game or other culminated - very ironically - into Europeans bashing Americans for lack of refinement when drinking tea: 'Imagine, they boil their water in a mug in the microwave and then put a teabag in!')... Far from straying off the straight and narrow path of N-Gage bashing: what gaming news sites are worthy of my attention?

Since you've already expressed your dislike of Gamespot and I my skepticism of it, it would be pointless to answer this question with - Gamespot!!

Irrespective, I still find their opinion to be the one I most agree with. They do it indepth and it's essentially free.

But in the end, when it comes to buying a game or not, the hand that moves me belongs to me. I've bought games that gamespot bashed and enjoyed them, I've bought games that gamespot glorified and hated them. It's all a matter of opinion and I like mine best

I still read GameSpot. On the whole I find them pretty good, and I can't imagine Nokia paid them off. If they did, Nokia got the short end of the stick. Read their N-Gage preview; their editor impressions are hardly glowing. They basically all said the device isn't looking good right now, and it has major flaws, but they'll reserve judgment until release. We can bash it all we want because we're just jerks on a forum, but journalists shouldn't damn a console before it even comes out.

They probably have a kind of agreement where the paying off is for advertising purposes only and not for opinion changing. So if I made a crappy game, I'd pay Gamespot to advertise on there but they wouldn't be any nice to me on a review

All the big game sites and magazines get extremely nasty phone calls and get totally chewed out by publishers if they give a big-name game a mediocre (or even medium) review. I know that more than one big gaming site has gone back on their initial review score because of this... Sometimes though they stay by their score (and of course throw a big fuss about how they're staying by it, as to throw you off the scent of the 6 times they changed their review in a similar scenario earlier in the year). For gaming news and honest reviews I only really trust the Thumb, even though it doesn't exist.

LMAO!! (This is an obscure inside joke that only about three people on this forum will get.)

Anyway, I too think the N-Gage sucks, though I've been gradually convinced that Nokia will actually be able to sell millions of them. Despite it's sucky-ness, sites are (perhaps reluctantly) taking it seriously because Nokia is putting a extreme amount of marketing power behind it.

In game journalism there are two rules. 1. Everyone is corrupt. Everyone. From Edge to GameInformer, they've all done less-than-honorable things. 2. Nobody talks about it, or if they do they pretend to have journalistic integrity while badmouthing others.

Advertisers are powerful, and PR events and goodies are very appealing to writers who don't necessarily have experience in real journalism. Game journalism is a huge joke. I'd honestly put more trust in some crazy man with a weblog than some big name reviewer of a big name magazine.

Of course, you guys are fortunate enough to be reading Adventure Gamers, which is Officially Corruption-Free!
