Default Silent Hill 3 PC preview

Quote:
As you might expect from a game that's being ported from older console hardware to the PC, Silent Hill 3 seems to take good advantage of PC hardware. The game supports onscreen resolutions of up to 1920x1440, as well as texture resolutions of up to 2048x2048. It also features graphics options, like dynamic shadows, that can be toggled on or off to improve performance. The graphics in the PC version look noticeably sharper than those in the PlayStation 2 version, especially for the game's detailed character models. Japanese console adventure games, which tend to focus on key characters with dramatic camera close-ups, have continued to focus on creating highly detailed characters with animated facial expressions. This focus is evident in Silent Hill 3's character models, who have fully articulated mouths that are synced with their full audio speech. The PC version also retains the original game's detailed animated shadows, which lengthen and deform realistically as Heather steps into and out of the light.
Full preview, Gamespot 10/9/03

The game should be in stores just before Halloween.

Makes me wonder on how many CD will it be... last one was on 3, this one is supposably shorter, so even though graphics are updated, it will perhaps still be on 3, maybe they'll release a DVD version too, after all Konami did release a DVD version of Metal Gear Solid 2.
I hope they stick to release date!

Intrepid, was it you, who had problems with SH2, where your game speed would fall drasticly? I know someone had the problem, and i provided the solution, but the question i wanted to ask was... did you compete it and what did you think of it?

Not sure, Voodoo, but I did have a problem with the game slowing down to single digit frames per second. Someone (thanks!) had suggested to turn off the flashlight flare, and that solved it and the game ran smoothly as butter. Was it you who told me that?

I haven't touched it in quite a while. I left off just before the first Pyramid Head boss fight. I'll have to backtrack a bit because I had practically no health when I meet PH, and I die from a single touch by him, so I'll need to load up a savegame where I can at least accumulate more ammo and preserve health. I'll be playing it more tonight and this weekend, hopefully finishing it up by Halloween. Beautiful, cerebral, haunting game, I don't mind taking my time with it.

A 2 minute gameplay movie of the PC DVD-ROM version Silent Hill 3 (thanks, Tiscali!) can now be downloaded from Gamer's Hell. The movie shows scenes from a darkened and abandoned amusment park filled with disturbing stuffed animals and horrifyingly deadly beasties, and offers a glimpse of the game's much touted atmospheric dynamic lighting and sound effects. This PC DVD-ROM version is slated to be released in 2 weeks, just in time for Halloween.

OOH OOH OOH!! And a playable demo is also being worked on!

Aaarrrgh. I really, really, really want to play this game. That gameplay movie was a TEASER in the true meaning of the word.

Just watched the movie again, and sent the link to my niece in California. I love how the movie starts with this caption:

"Some parts of this game may be considered violent or cruel."

I love how the in-game graphics look about a million times cleaner than the in-game subtitle Pretty amazing visuals, fo sheezy. Well, I suppose it's just another title I won't be playing

I appreciate the polygon count and all, but she looks like she has a terrible skin disease. I wouldn't touch any objects, that someone who looked like that touched, in real life... [shivers]
