Sims 2 release question

The Sims 2 website has the game set for release on September 17 yet most of the retail sites incuding Amazon and Gamestop have the game coming out on the 14th. Gamestop even has a countdown clock running for the release. I assume the official site is correct but why would the other sites still have the earlier date?

Some places might sell / send out when they recieve the game to make sure it is with you by the 17th, but chances are it'll be with you earlier?

gameplay does that and i often get it 1 or 2 days before release

it's pritty much the same thing that happend with DOOM 3, a lot of people got the game 2 days before the official date.

well the guy that lives next to me has it pre-order and he said it ships the 14.eb will have it in the 15. BTW Tuesday is the day games ship...so the 17 could be the day all stores should have it.
