Default Think you'd like an adventure/mystery MMO?

If the quests in an MMO were done like adventure/mystery games...specific parts and puzzles and interfaces and such...

would that convince some of you who dont like them to play?

just curious.

<any adventure game> + <any IRC channel> = win
<MMO with adventure puzzles> + <monthly fees> = fail

Unless you cut the monthly fee and give us a more specific idea of what you mean - no. I never enjoyed the idea of URU Live. Then again, every MMO is focused/based on a) grind and b) competition. How would you implement that?

<any adventure game> + <any IRC channel> = Tabbing out and computer crashes, yay!
<MMO with adventure puzzles> + <monthly fees> = Win!

Think of it, it would start out as big as most mmo's out there so out of the box youll have more than your moneys worth.
and since there are monthly fees then you know there are going to be more puzzles to come.

I would defintly go for an MMO that replaced grinding with puzzles

You know I never did play URU (did that even come out?).

Well, the point of quests (supposedly) in MMOs is to draw players into a storyline with realistic people with needs and emotions. Single player adventure/mystery games do this much better than MMOs do currently.

Another point is that the interaction in such ad/my games is soo much better: multiple text paths, unique/customized interfaces (dials, puzzles, gears...etc).

With all that being taken as a starting point, why not impliment ad/my procedures and gameplay where they fit into MMOs?

Take the money part out of the equation...if that wasnt a factor....would you be interested? Just curious.

Said another way, does anyone think it couldnt be done? or shouldnt? Or an opinion as to how best to do it? Any thoughts would be interesting.

the money CANT be taken out of the equation. You have to have a server up 24/7 to run your MMO so better not take the money out of the equation.

And before anyone mentions Guild Wars, its not an MMO!

Only the cities are servers, the rest is all instanced.

The multiplayer component was initially cancelled. However, it's now due for a relaunch towards the end of this year, although only through GameTap. (AG's news item)

Not exactly - From the FAQ on urulive.com

Q.What if I'm not a GameTap subscriber?
A. Access to Uru Live will be available outside of GameTap for the same monthly fee but players who enter this way will not receive any of the extra benefits offered by GameTap.

Please check out Uru Live at www.urulive.com.

Thanks
