Default Name the opening scene/music that grabs you! (Non-Adventure Edition)

Sorry Mira, love you really darlin'.

So whats it gonna be? I found Starcraft to have some amazing introductory scenes with the Protoss & Zerg, a bit more emotional with the Terrans.

But to be honest, I can't name many games that really took my breath away. Either that or its too early for me to be thinking.

Ooh, so many.

Homeworld probably goes without saying. An absolute blinder of a game intro, and Adagio for Strings was the perfect musical choice.

Thief. The intro cutscene (and all cutscenes for that matter) is brilliant, and still every bit as atmospheric and stylish as it was back in 98.

Flashback. I watched that intro cutscene a frightening number of times. I loved it when Conrad Hart fired up that hover bike

And the opening music to Speedball 2 was great (8 bit version - don't know if the 16-bit music was any different).

More recently, I was really impressed with the opening of Shadow of the Colossus. Epic yet lonely - an excellent scene setter for the game.

Thief! The cutscenes are just...amazing. The music in the cutscene before the prison mission stood out to me a lot.

Ah, here's the proper thread.

Fallout, definitely. The song "Maybe", the opening sequence that progresses artfully from deceptively cozy to downright chilling, the "War. War never changes..." narration...

I haven't played any other game whose intro sticks in my head as well as that one, although there are some games which are also good (Planescape comes to mind.)

Intro on You Tube

Peace & Luv, Liz

(edited to add movie link, whee!)

LOL topic stealer!

Urm urm... I can't think of any at the moment... I liked the Red Alert 2 opening scene with the Soviets attacking America - so cool...

Oooh! Max Payne 2. The opening scene, the music... it's awesome.

American McGee's Alice. Great music by Tweaker/Chris Vrenna (Nine Inch Nails ex-drummer), great intro ( youtube).

Shadow of the Colossus had a spectacular intro - but I can't remember the background music...

Baldur's Gate I and Baldur's Gate II.

Um...I can't think of any other non-adventure games right now...

I liked the Wing Commander 4 intro... but I'm a sucker for big cutscenes.
