The song was undoubtedly written by Akira Yamaoka (Producer/Composer/Sound FX designer for the Silent Hill series). As for a name, that will likely have to wait for the release of the OST.

Looks good, but am I right in thinking it's console only?

It should be ported to PC eventually.

Kinda funny that they never did a Silent Hill 3 for Xbox and yet they're making this one for Xbox.

But yeah, this game looks really unsettling. Hovering corpses that, uh, somehow have all of their appendages facing backwards? WTF?

Chinese character for 'ghost'.

Those are probably based in part on Japanese ghosts. The paranormal in Asian beliefs is really intriguing to me, highly imaginative, if not outright demented. In Chinese beliefs, if I remember correctly, ghosts are supposed to be white-faced and can only travel in a straight line while hopping - which would freak me out far more than a classic western spook type. Another type of ghost - once a female who had died disgracefully - initially appears in the form of a beautiful young woman with stylized painted face and long jet black hair that suddenly transforms herself into a heart-stilling hideous and deadly banshee type.

I wonder to what extent the nasties in the SH series owe their inspiration to classic Japanese/Asian references.

If you can find it, rent or buy A Chinese Ghost Story (1987), a Hong Kong action/horror/comedy/romance/martial arts romp. Lot of fun to watch.

I think this little 'Chia Pet' from SH4 deserves to be placed on the list of Most Imaginative Game Monsters Of All Time.

Hmm, just been on the phone to the PR chap for Konami UK, and he said it's definately going to be console only, but then they said that with SH3 I think, didn't they?

Yeah, I wouldn't take that as final, especially if SH4 turns out successfully on console. If that's the case a PC port wouldn't be ruled out 8-) .

I did wander across this Spanish site that lists the trailer's "Lullaby" song singer as Melissa Williams, vocalist for the Silent Hill 3 soundtrack.

There's a new little movie available (9.9MB), featuring in-game footage of those freaky ghosts.

Sorry if this was brought up somewhere before, but did anyone notice there are two ALMOST identical versions of that long trailer? .. If you don't pay close attention, you end up thinking, they are one and the same trailer.

They use a lot of great camera/video techniques in the trailer to makes things super-creepy, but I wonder if they're actually make it into the game? Will we see cutscenes and/or actual gameplay using these techniques?

According to what I've read, the game will shift from 3rd to 1st person perspective depending on cinematic needs.

Well, I read that the game will play from the first-person when you're in the character's apartment; elsewhere will be third-person. But that still doesn't explain the shaky-cam/black-and-white/blurry/etc. camera techniques, and whether they'll be in the game.

If they are they had better be constrained only to cutscenes, otherwise the reviewers and we gamers will tear it to pieces. Survival horror games as we know it are already so f#&ked up because of of stupid camera angles interfering with gameplay.

Well i, for one don't like this new 1rst person mode feature.
As far as the camera goes, my bet would be that it won't be any worse than in the first three.
I just hope they don't mess with controls again, since i'm finding it more and more diffucult to adapt to new ones, with each new Silent Hill game. I spent 1/3 of SH3 mastering controls with keyboard.

Man, that trailer looked awful (The quality/compression, not the content).

I can't wait for the game though.

We need a lot more horror games on the PC IMO...
