Unreal Tournament 2004 demo - Page 2

I have:
P4 3.0 FSB 800
1024 DDR 400
Radeon 9600 XT

I played the demo without the slightest slowdown.

As I stated earlier in this thread, I got a

GFFX 5900 Regular 128mb
AMD XP 2500+ with the Barton Core (333MHZ FSB)
512mb pc2700 333MHZ
(and also a Audigy 2 ZS coupled with Logitech 5300 5.1 speakers both THX certified

)

I run the game everything max 1280x960 with 4XAA, perfectly smooth.

Looks like I'm back to having a fairly rubbish computer, hooray! As per usual, I refuse to upgrade until I can no longer scrape through by laughing IN THE FACE of minimum system requirements, becoming a footnote on fan sites everywhere.

I haev teh 1.3GHz AMD Athlon with 512MB RAM and a GeForce FX5200 (which I'm told is rubbish but, bah, it works, and is probably a good match for the processor.)

I seem to be able to play the UT2004 demo at 1024x768 (at least - I don't really get any benefit from going any higher) without any noticeable slowdown, so yay for that.

Huz, don't think your computer is bad just because a couple guys in a thread about a modern FPS posted higher system specs then yours. You know the majority of people who go to the effort of posting their specs in a thread like all have far better then average setups. If your getting playable frame rates at 1024x768 you should certainly be happy (not very happy, mind you, just happy

). I just wish I could be content with not cranking up all the settings all the way up in every game, like you seem to be, it sure would save me allot of cash.

As did I, but I honestly doubt I would've if I hadn't upgraded a month ago, and I'm sure I'm not the only one like this. That was the only point I was trying to make, nothing wrong with having an above average computer and posting your specs when people ask.

About the Audigy 2 (ZS

), its definitely awesome, especially the EAX Advanced HD in games. My last sound card was really good with music and DVDs but this one seems to be even better. A good buy if you play allot of modern 3D games, a great buy if you currently have a crappy sound card.

Geez, what is it with me and voice commands lately? This speech recognition kit enables you to orally command your bot team in the UT04 demo:

I really like the Onslaught mode on this game. It's tactical, sometimes frantic, and the addition of vehicles is a great way to boost cooperation - you can pick up your mates and let them man gunnery turrets while you drive. In fact, on the 'transport' type vehicle, the driver can't shoot at all, so is more or less forced to pick up some passengers unless he wants to be completely exposed.

The voice chat feature is still disappointing - for one, hardly anyone uses the thing, and for another, I STILL can't understand what anyone's saying (although I'm sure I could pick up "Huzhead you tosser" - funny how that works). I think I had ONE game of Counter-Strike where the voice chat feature was used to good effect (to coordinate the team in a way that was impossible without it), but other than that, any PC game with voice chat has only featured incomprehensible mumbling that usually sounds suspiciously like abuse.

Still, I'll probably end up getting the full version of this. I hear it will feature all the content from the previous games, so that's a winner - I can always fall back to CTF-Face with prettier graphics if all else fails.

Anyone still interested in getting together to play this? I see there was interest earlier on in the thread, but nothing seemed to come of it...

Yeah Huz. I was ready to play. There are a couple of things that are hindering my plan.

1. I'm in the middle of exams.
2. eriq scares me.

3. I'm having more fun playing Painkiller
4. I only liked the original UT. The Sniper rifle was awesome.

Though, don't count me out just yet. If people start gathering, then I'll be sure to come.

By the way, CTF-Face and CTF-Face][ rock ! That and DM-Phobos.

Nah, UT(1) had the awesomest sniper rifles in any non-realistic FPS (which discounts stuff like Call of Duty and Medal of Honor, of course).

And yes, Painkiller is friggin beautiful so far. I just love the graphics. It's not as "fast" as Unreal Tournament, but it's definetely a cool shooter. That stake-gun is loads of fun. And I love staking the guys in the head so that they "fly" and land on the wall hanging by their brains. Have you tried that? You can also shoot things from above and have them fall on to people. It's really really neat that Havok physics Engine.

I think I'll give Painkiller a try. I'm getting bored of Onslaught mode in the UT2004 demo now - either I'm really good, or everyone else I encounter is (for what of a less lame expression) a n00b. I suspect the latter.
