If you had paid more attention to the fighting and skill building you wouldn't have found him so hard. In the game menu is a moves list which you can build up and even improve some, by talking to trainers or buying and finding move cards throughout the game. You can assign the moves to different combos and perform them in fights rather than the default set, making you a better fighter. This is stat building.

The book airing was tedious. You never got anything for it (other than being trained to better handle quick time events) and it happened far too often.

I'm not sure I agree 100%. Shenmue 'trains' you throughout for successively tougher QTEs and fights much like the martial artists spread throughout the story train Ryu in order to face Lan Di. If you only solved puzzles to reach Lan Di... would you just watch them fight at the (middle?) end? That's kind of a let down.

You are right there are quite a few puzzles hidden in the game. They are so kinetic that they aren't obvious which is great. But alone, I don't think they'd suit the story of a young martial arts afficionado seeking to kill the man who murdered his father.

Beating up the street punks and getting better at the game, as Ryu's skill also improves is very rewarding like no point and click adventure game can be.

What emulator did you use? I'm going to have to leave my Dreamcast behind, but it would be nice to be able to take the Shenmue games with me.

It's not that "He" was hard. He was very easy. But I died try to find a way to kill him. Then after finding out that you have to hit his back to win. The I died once more. The I quickened my fighting and beat "him". As the QTE. I dead just there 5 times. Why ? I don't know if it's my controller. But it just broken. I hit "Up" and it registers as if I hit the left or right key. The same thing happens when I play my music. The cruser just wonders off. To get the key you want... You have to hit the button on the top. So if you want to hit "Right", you have to be of the very edge. So I'm not 100% to blame.

Yes. I know. But all the moves in the game can't help you in the last boss. His tooo fast.

Let's face it. What are the chances Ryo CAN win Lan Di ? I mean, come on. Lan Di can kill people with one move. And I don't want to spoil it for people, but one of the things that make Shenmue 2 REALLY crap (story wise). Is that he needs other peoples help EVERY TIME. Other people save him ALL the time. He has to ask and bag other people to help him. And let me not talk about who saved him from who... You know what I'm talking about !!! Ryo comes out looking/fighting like a chicken in Shenmue 2. In Shenmue 1 he was a real man. Never ask for other peoples help and did the "fighting" on his own. And now you think that Ryo can BEAT Lan Di ? Please... We've seen it. Ryo can't even beat the master... I don't want to spoil it for people. But the people who played the game know what I mean. So it would be beat to end the game as a group fighting Lan Di. As they showed in the Trailer in 2005 at E3. That would be GREAT. That's the only way Ryo can win. By having other people help him, as they did in Shenmue 2. And why did Ryo's father tell him "Keep the friends you have close to you ?" Because... The game was meant to end with "friends" killing Lan Di. There is no way Ryo can do it himself.

ONE OF THE WORST PART IN Shenmue 2 was that you had to earn money to move on !!! That was hell. It left you with no money for yourself. And plus I spent like 10 days of just working to get the money !!!! And this happened like twice that I can remember... I'm surprise no one is complaining about this.

Yes. The zoom is kind of crap. It's too shakey

which is unfortunate and may turn out to be a game killer for me, which is a pity.
No. The fighting is EASY. If you give it enough of time. You'll make it. I did. and I can't even beat any normal game. In "NightCaster" I never made it spent the first level. I'm bad at gaming. But won Shenmue 1 and 2. And if you think Shenmue 2 may be hard. You haven't seen hard until you are attack by 75 people (2 with lad pipes) and you have to beat they all up. That reminds me... Ryo can beat 75 guys up, yet he can't beat 10/20 of Ren's men ? Please.... But anyway the game is easy. On a scale of 1 to 100. I would rate the game as a 73 hard. The hardest part for me was in one building. This guys attacked you and you had to put off a 5 min combo. That was hard. And since I had a broken remote... It was harder. The last fight is nothing more than "Up+Up+Right+A+B"... You have to do this like 5 times. and his done for. That's it. And the 3 people you have to beat are VERY easy. The key to just to attack and not stop. If you do buy the game and need help, feel free to ask me.

You don't use money in adventure games but you do in rpg games See another feature common in Shenmue and rpg genre Oh by the way earning money is sooo easy (if you know what to do)

All games use money. But what would you call a game that is 100% click and point ? A game that only has puzzles. A game like Syberia ? Cause you have to pay the people to move your train, with their boat.

As for money. How ? To sell a set of those 25¢ thingy's is hard, and costs. To arm wrestle for it is hard too. The betting thing is a risk. So I can lose more then I make. So the only thing I did was move the crates to make the money. And no comment on other people helping Ryo ?

Ohhh... There was this magazine, EGM. They gave you a free DVD. In it there was the clip. Of a guy who was acting like Ryo. He was a real human asking people find they've seen the person who killed his father. One woman called the cops on him !!!! Anyone see that ? It's as funny as hell !!!! I think you can see it online... Very funny

Solid Snake, thank you for the information.

nl4m, I didn't rent the game. I bought both of them. It's just that, well.. to be honest, the packrat gene runs in my family, and I've inherited it. Consequently, I have spent more time collecting games than actually playing them over the past several years. So my "games to be played" pile has long since grown past the point where I can even keep track of it.

I did put a few hours into Shenmue, then set it aside for another time, that's all. I actually put more time into it than I have any console game since the incredibly ahead of their time games Treasures of Tarmin and Utopia on the Intellivision.
